Overview

Sportingbet Introduction

It’s fair to say that Sportingbet have been on a considerable journey since their launch in 1998. It’s been a hell of a ride for those involved with the company but one thing has remained constant – they’ve always provided a top class, varied offering to their customers.

We tell the Sportingbet story and assess what they have to offer customers now (including their welcome bonus) in our Sportingbet review.

About Sportingbet

Mark Blandford ran physical bookmaking operations for 15 years before he decided that the future of gambling was online. His response to all the opportunity ahead of him was to sell his bookmakers, found Sportingbet and launch it the following year. Blandford remained with Sportingbet until 2006, winning awards for his leadership and the company’s growth during that time.

A series of acquisitions saw Sportingbet become the biggest online gambling company in the world for a short period of time before they took the decision to sell off their US facing brands following regulatory issues Stateside.

As well as the sportsbook operation, Sportingbet continued to operate various poker and gaming brands until 2012 when the company was sold off. The Spanish and Australian operations were bought by William Hill while GVC Holdings bought Sportingbet as we know it today. GVC continue to operate Sportingbet as a forward-thinking bookmaker who offer a host of betting and gaming products to over 2.5 million users.

Sportingbet Free Bet Welcome Bonus and Promotions

Sportingbet have come a long way since being founded but are hopeful of achieving even more growth in the years to come. That’s great news for punters who have a host of offers and promotions to choose from including a £10 free bet welcome bonus for all new customers.

To claim this Sportingbet free bet all you have to do is open an account via one of the links on our site, place a deposit of at least £10 then place a bet of up to £10 at odds of evens (2.0) or greater. Sportingbet will then refund your bet as a free bet up to that £10 maximum if it loses. This offer is only for new customers and other important terms and conditions apply.

Sports punters who stick around with Sportingbet are rewarded with a wealth of promotions. There is a winnings boost available on football and horse racing accumulators, special football match casts and regular enhanced odds accas. There’s also the Weekly Free Bet Club where a £10 free bet is up for grabs each week if you place five accas of £5 or more on Sportingbet’s mobile site or apps.

Additionally, Sportingbet’s Casino and Live Casino products are very strong and each has their own generous 100% first deposit welcome bonus.

Interface and Appearance

The Sportingbet homepage looks very similar to many other bookies. That provides a real sense of familiarity to seasoned punters but it’s also been designed to be as simple and intuitive as possible for those who are a little newer to online betting.

The top of the page contains account information, links to help articles and the Sportingbet customer service and horizontal menus offering easy navigation to the site’s various sections. The bulk of the homepage and that of individual sports is dedicated to the biggest upcoming events and anything currently in-play. That section is flanked by a left-hand sidebar containing popular quick links and a list of the sports Sportingbet offer and a right-hand sidebar which has the betslip, popular bets and a handy live calendar.

In general, information is well presented and easy to find. It also does well from a design point of view thanks to the use of the blue, red and white with which Sportingbet have been associated for so long.

Betting Markets and Odds

Unlike many bookies, Sportingbet display how many betting markets are available at any one time at the top of their list of sports. It’s usually around 40,000 markets but that number obviously fluctuates depending on how busy the sporting calendar is.

Those markets are drawn from a list of sports that’s comprehensive enough to compete with even the biggest bookmakers. It’s very rare for punters to be frustrated in their search for an individual event or market with Sportingbet. That’s especially true when it comes to in-play betting as this is an area in which Sportingbet excel.

You couldn’t say that Sportingbet offer the best value of any bookie but their prices are generally competitive. You’ll find them go the best odds on big sports like horse racing and football and the offers listed above help punters win even bigger than normal.

Live Streaming

As well as pricing up markets on a wide selection of sports, Sportingbet also have an impressive level of coverage when it comes to their live-streaming options. By logging into a funded account you can access streams on sports ranging from tennis to water polo, football to table tennis.

Mobile Betting

Sportingbet was founded by one of the early adopters of online gambling and they were similarly quick to understand the importance of offering punters with quality ways to bet on the move. The Sportingbet mobile site and apps work on iOS and Android devices, are quick and reliable and rank well in terms of downloads compared to other bookies.

Cash Out

To have a look at your current Cash Out options with Sportingbet you must head to your account, view your current bets and select the Cash-Out filter. That process is more fiddly than the leaders in this area but Sportingbet do at least give their customers this advanced level of control over their betting.

Licence, Security and Customer Service

Sportingbet’s licence to operate betting and gaming products is granted to them by the Government of Gibraltar while they are regulated by the Gibraltar Gaming Commissioner. For UK customers, Sportingbet are licensed and regulated by the Gambling Commission and also hold a Remote Gaming Licence.

They’ve had to jump through a lot of regulatory hoops but that does give customers increased confidence that their money, payment details and personal information is held securely. Sportingbet are also affiliated with a number of gambling charities should their customers run into any problems.

If you have any further questions about Sportingbet or run into any problems you can easily get in touch with their customer service department by clicking the Contact Us link in the top left-hand corner of the site which provides all their contact details.
